tragedy in boston. the hunt continues for those responsible. >> hello. i'm jessica kartalija. here is what people are talking about today. fbi investigators are piecing

together evidence in the boston marathon bombings. randall pinkston has more. >> reporter: investigators say they are combing through hours of video frame by frame looking for the person who planted the explosive devices. the area around the finish line of the boston marathon is what police call the complex crime scene in the city's history. >> any time bombs are used to target innocent civilians, it's an act of terror. >> reporter: investigators continue to collect and process evidence including bomb fragments and cell phone videos and photos. mourners are placing flowers at the scene. investigators denied reports that several unexploded bombs were found in the area. >> we have two devices that we are aware of.

both of them did the damage and were involved in the explosive incident. >> reporter: three people were killed and more than 175 others were injured in the two blasts. among the fatalities, 8-year- old martin richard who greeted his father at the finish line. the boy's sister and mother were badly injured. >> they are a wonderful family. >> reporter: investigators say the 12 block area near the finish line will remain a crime scene for two more days. the fbi agent in charge would not confirm reports agents are questioning a saudi national injured in the blast. police searched his home in the suburb of revere. >> i won't say who is or might be in custody. >> reporter: the injured people, several of whom lost limbs are being treated in hospitals across the city. >> probably this bomb had multiple metallic fragments in them and we removed nails.

>> reporter: no one claimed responsibility for the attack. mayor thomas menino said yesterday was a bad day for boston but the city will overcome. reporting live in boston, randall pinkston, back to you. >> thank you, randall. investigators are trying to determine if a foreign terrorist organization was involved or possibly a domestic lone wolf attacker. a local teacher is among the injured following the bombings in boston. mike schuh is in the newsroom with the latest. mike? >> reporter: a teacher at trinity episcopal church school was injured at the marathon. she is undergoing surgery today. she was at the marathon watching her mom participate. her mom is doing okay but other family members were hurt. her sister suffered broken bones. her brother-in-law sustained cuts and bruises. the school is communicating with staff and students using social media she is in icu and her mom still hasn't been able to see her.

>> wishing her the best. thank you. we will keep you updated on erica brannick's condition. check in at 4:00, 5:00 and 6 for the latest updates. the police chief in boss stone announced officers from all over the country are helping including in maryland. >> we received offers from assistants from chicago, los angeles, units responded from new york city and baltimore. >> boston's police commissioner said all of the teams are working closely together to solve this complex case. back at home, everyone in the baltimore area was urged to go about their day as usual. officials said there is no credible threat in our area. of course, everyone as always should stay vigilant. wjz has live complete coverage. it continues with derek valcourt with more on that. >> reporter: anyone downtown can expect to notice the difference in the city. there will be a lot more officers including bomb- sniffing dogs and officers

armed and on patrol. city police beefing up the presence around some of baltimore's critical infrastructure including government buildings, landmarks and major events. the police commissioner announced the increased security at a news conference which he says he has been in touch with authorities. >> there are no credible threats to this area or the city of baltimore. but it's prudent to take cautious steps. >> reporter: city police will deploy operation teams throughout the city. there will be increased police presence around bus station and amtraks. citizens can expect to see heavily armed tactical officers around the city. >> check trash cans, check the perimeters. you will see bomb dogs and canine officers working areas, too. >> reporter: maryland state police will be on guard and local officials are asking citizens to be alert and do their part. >> we should never lose focus on the fact that if you see something you should say

something. >> reporter: the orioles begin a nine-game stretch at home starting today. they are expecting huge crowds. that's why city police say they will have an extra police presence there at orioles stadium as well. back to you. >> thanks. this in from carroll county, the circuit and district countries are closed because of a bomb threat. there was a threat called in this morning. at this point nothing has been found. meantime, a total of 448 runners from maryland participated in the boston marathon including 59 from baltimore. peter mulligan from canton was one of them. he escaped without injury. mary haer was down the street from the explosion cheering on her daughter. her daughter is said to be okay. there is a hotline available if you need to reach a loved one. chaos broke out immediately after the marra ton bomb blast. in the middle of the fear and panic, people stepped up to help others. there are countless stories of acts of kindness by strangers.

elaine has their stories for wjz. within seconds after the explosion, marathon runners and bystanders joined forces with emergency responders heading in one direction toward the chaos ripping past barricades to help victims that suffered horrible injuries. >> they responded within 15 seconds. you saw everybody coming down here. >> as a team we tried to work together to take care of the people coming in. that's what we did. >> reporter: peace activists rushed to the scene just after the blast and helped wheel a victim with a gruesome leg injury to an ambulance nearby. >> let's go, people, let's go. >> reporter: there weren't just people at the scene wanting to he help. online by monday evening a google registry for stranded victims seeking shelter had

8,000 offerings. several airlines waved fees for flight changes in and out of boston. phone companies expanded the local wi-fi capacity to meet the demand. joe andruzzi pictured carrying a woman after the explosion. praised efforts across the board saying the spotlight should remain firmly on the countless civilians that did whatever they could to save lives. they were the true heros. >> witnesses say there were many, many more people that deserve credit for helping. here is what we know this noon. three people are confirmed dead. one is an 8-year-old boy. more than 175 people are injured. federal and local authorities are searching an apartment for someone they are calling a person of interest in the boston suburb of a veer -- of revere. stay with wjz on air and online for complete coverage.

it's mostly cloudy. 66 degrees in central maryland. the complete first warning forecast is coming up. maryland state police charged the driver of a car that they say struck and killed a pedestrian in front of baltimore's city hall.

troopers say that 43-year-old johnny johnson has been charged with homicide by motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, driving under the influence of drugs and numerous other traffic and drug offenses in the crash last week. his bail was set at a quarter million dollars. police say matthew hercel was struck by a car driven by johnson that flipped over in front of city hall. the search continues this noon for the vehicle that struck two teens in ann arundel county killing one of them. skylar marion died at shock trauma monday. marion and another teenager were struck walking on mountain road in pasadena. the 13-year-old girl survived and is recovering. they may be looking for a 1997 to 2002 ford expedition. if you haven't heard, expect delays around camden yard during rush hour because the city department of transportation is doing work on pratt street at utah street. starting at 9:00 each morning two lanes will close at utah. if enough progress is made, it

will be reduced to one lane in the afternoon. also adding to the congestion, the orioles are home all this week. a new service tax is causing a stir around baltimore. a fee will be charged for residential and nonprofit properties. money raised from the tax will be spent on improving storm water run off systems. in baltimore county, owners of town homes have to pay $21. single family homeowners will pay $39 for this so-called rain tax. and still ahead on "wjz eyewitness news at noon," a mix of clouds and sun today. the complete forecast is 2 1/2 minutes away. but first here's a look at the midday stocks and last night's winning lottery numbers.

welcome back, everyone. we are sitting in the mid-60s right now all under mostly cloudy skies. we have a few warmer spots including easton around 70 degrees already today. but these numbers are going to bump up a few more degrees as we head into the afternoon. now, we got a lot of 60s out there but cooler areas as well. 58 in annapolis and kent island at 58 degrees. not quite breaking 60 yet. winds have picked up. they will continue to do so. we are expecting a rather breezy afternoon. they are out of the south 10 miles per hour in washington and 12 miles per hour in

baltimore. now, the southerly component of wind is going to help continue to warm us up as we head into the afternoon today and as we head into tomorrow. here is what is going on on satellite and radar. we have a storm system near the great lakes. that is associated with the cold frontal boundary or the leading edge of colder air. this cool front won't be cooling us off and i will tell you why in a minute. all this will do for us is bring a quick chance of a shower or thunderstorm as we head into the wednesday. otherwise it won't do too much. but, this cool front won't cool us off because we have a warm front behind it and that will continue to provide us with the southerly wind. that will warm us up as we head into the rest of the week. now, we have an area of low pressure that will be moving through later in the week. that will bring us a cool down into next weekend. the bay forecast, 55 degrees for the water temperature. sunrise at 6:27.

in today's wjz health watch, your resting heart rate may reveal your life expectancy. doctors followed about 3,000 men over a 16 year period. they found the higher a resting heart rate the greater a risk of death. 81 to 90 beats per minute doubled your chances of dying and higher than 90 triples it. getting enough sleep before you get behind the wheel could save your life. researchers found fatigue as a cause of 20% of accidents. they equipped 100 cars with
